Wells Fargo Awards $605,000 in Grants for Veteran Housing Efforts

SAN FRANCISCO – Wells Fargo Foundation today announced that it has doubled the commitment to the 2019 VeteranWINS^® grant program with $605,000 in donations across 17 nonprofits to address sustainable housing for military veterans. The VeteranWINS grant program has donated a total to $1.2 million to nonprofits serving veteran housing needs over the past four years.

Awarded through a competitive application process, VeteranWINS grants support community-based nonprofits focused on addressing veteran homelessness, transitional housing and low- to moderate-income veteran home rehabilitation.

“Everyone deserves a safe and secure place to live, especially our veterans, who have already sacrificed so much for our country,” said Jeff Chavannes, VeteranWINS program manager at Wells Fargo and an Army veteran. “The VeteranWINS program is just one way Wells Fargo supports the great work these nonprofits are doing for veterans in their communities.”

The 2019 VeteranWINS program grants are awarded to:

Large Communities: $40,000 Grants

• Redondo Beach, Calif. – New Beginnings Transitional Services for rental assistance to help veterans stay in their homes.
• Miami – Camillus House to provide housing vouchers that veterans who are transitioning to independent living can use for rental assistance, household items or other needs.
• Atlanta – Grove Park Foundation to support financial literacy initiatives and rental subsidies for veterans.
• McHenry, Ill. – TLS Veterans (Transitional Living Services) for rental assistance to help veterans overcome the barrier of deposits for housing.
• Urbandale, Iowa – Titan Project to support property renovations for veteran homeowners.
• Farmington Hills, Mich. – Rebuilding Together Southeast Michigan to rehabilitate and repair three veterans’ homes.
• Minneapolis – Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans to rehabilitate a transitional home providing supportive services.
• Albuquerque, N.M. – New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers to support rental and utilities assistance, emergency housing and food support.
• Portland, Ore. – Transition Projects to create move-in kits of household items for veterans who find permanent supportive housing.
• Philadelphia – Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia to rehabilitate and repair two veterans’ homes.
• Philadelphia – Impact Services Corporation for renovations to the veterans’ section of a transitional housing facility.
• San Antonio – Military Warriors Support Foundation to rehabilitate a home located in Pittsburgh to house female veterans who are continuing their education.

Small to Medium Communities: $25,000 Grants

• Selma, Ala. – Prodigal Son’s House to rehabilitate a property to house three homeless veterans with supportive services. 
• Plantation, Fla. – Legal Aid Service of Broward County to support rental assistance and legal representation for veterans at risk of homelessness.
• Great Falls, Mont. – Society of St. Vincent De Paul of North Central Montana to support the homeless veteran transition program at the Grace Home Veterans Center.
• Missoula, Mont. – Poverello Center to purchase and modify an ADA-accessible van to assist veterans with transportation.
• Winston-Salem, N.C. – Veterans Helping Veterans Heal for supportive services such as job skills training and housing assistance.
